GitHub Digest
Of course, there was a lot of talk about AI at the last GitHub Universe, and my colleague Rob Bos provided some great insights into how this can be used.
Read this summary of how to transform software development with AI:
“A higher CPU load leads to increased latency.” This is what the engineering team at GitHub noticed.
But why does this occur? And more importantly; what is the best way to optimize CPU utilization to achieve a better balance between performance and efficiency?
This very technical article describes their breakdown and analysis:
The GitHub mobile app has some updates; besides bug fixes, it now includes Chat Extensions. You can address extensions
as part of the conversation and ask them to do specific actions.
It is already available on the website, but now also in the mobile app.
Coding Corner
Describing event-driven architectures is not an easy task, so better stick with a standard that helps you with this. David Boyne shows 5 open source standards that allow you to document these kinds of architectures.
Are you already using a Dev Drive to store your source files?
A Dev Drive uses ReFS technology to provide a disk optimized for development. You get better control over the disk, like managing the anti-virus config, and can have a more efficient disk for development purposes.
The below Microsoft learn article guides you through the setup process:
Azure Updates & Insights
When you have a service in a vnet (like a VM or a App Service), you can securely connect to a PaaS resource by using a private link. The PaaS resource becomes part of a private subnet and you can route traffic to it and no longer expose it over the public internet.
A Network Security Perimeter goes a step further to help you protect access to your PaaS resources. Compare it to a Network Security Group, but then for PaaS.
At MS Ignite, the Azure Functions Flex Consumption offering became generally available. This SKU combines the consumption model with network support.
In order to enable this new Flex Consumption, the Microsoft team created a new backend called Legion. Learn more on how they were able to VNET injection at scale:
As a Mac user myself, I like it when we have ARM support with Docker. So I m enthusiastic about the new Cosmos DB Emulator as it now has native ARM images.
So pull the image and start playing with it…
.NET Nook
It is very easy to say that code needs to be fast and performant, but how do you quantify this? You will need to benchmark your test, and if you think that simply using a Stopwatch will do the trick, then read on:
