GitHub Digest
Everybody can now start using and building Copilot Extensions. There is a public beta with a marketplace of available extensions and a Copilot Extension Toolkit to build them yourself.
If you are unaware what these extensions are: third parties can offer agents that take part inside the Copilot chat. For example, a Docker agent or Octopus Deploy agent can provide more specific reasoning when added to the chat.
And yet another attack vector; you get an email from GitHub about a possible security issue with your repository and you end up with a virus on your machine.
Read how this simple but effective way of emailing via GitHub can be exploited and misused.
Copilot Autofix is a feature that helps you resolve found security issues. Previously it was only available to Advanced Security customers, but now all public repositories can make use of it.
There are many well-architected frameworks available and now there is also a GitHub one. They recently launched an open source style framework with a lot of guides helping you to implement GitHub in the best possible way.
The commit details page got some love and includes subtle new features to improve the workflow. Like more filter options and keyboars support.
Azure Updates & Insights
Party time 🥳 because Azure API management turns 10 years old! Processing 2 trillion API requests each month and being a key element for organisations to expose their applications to the web.
The article describes the key innovations and the future of APIM. BTW I recently wrote a piece about it detailing the various offerings.
Always good to look at the new features regarding Azure Cost management. Microsoft shared the updates they did recently.
An interesting one is the Reservation options for Azure OpenAI services. You also have hourly pricing options so you do not need to commit to 30 days.
.NET Nook
I keep having a soft spot for Azure Functions and although I m not using them at the moment, I try to keep up with the news as they provide an interesting way of tackling some cloud native development problems.
The September roadmap shows what is coming up in regards to .NET versions (yes, upgrade your .NET 6), but also the Isolated worker mode looks interesting.
